Netflixs Jessica Jones might be a show about superpowers, genetic experiments, and surviving on Slim Jims, but its also got some real science in there. This was recently put to the test, as one characters monologue about octopus DNA resulted in a massive Goog air max 96 ling for information about cephalopods鈥攑rompting Jessica herself to respond by airing someone elses dirty laundry. Did we expect anything less In the fifth episode of season two, aptly named AKA The Octopus, Jessica Kristen Ritter questions the man who wrongly confessed to murdering a nurse from IGH, the group that gave Jessica her powers, to get more information about their activities. At first, Dave Daniel Everidge , is reluctant to cooperate, partially due to his mental state. That is, until Jessica starts asking him about the octopus he was coloring, prompting him to go on an eventually helpful tangent about octopus DNA. As pointed out by The Wrap, the science checks out, something lots of people were apparently eager to find out for themselves. Since 2005, scientists have puzzled over a series of long fissures seen in the southern adidas yeezy regions of Saturns frozen moon Enceladus. New research explains how these so-called tiger stripes formed and why Enceladus is the only place in the solar system where these features could have emerged. NASAs Cassini spacecraft spotted the stripes in 2005, showing what appeared to be plumes of water shooting up from surface fractures, which were dubbed tiger stripes adidas samba og on account of their orderly appearance. The features were yeezy slide seen as evidence that a subsurface ocean existed under Enceladuss icy crust, instantly making the Saturnian moon an important object of inquiry, not just from a geological perspective but from an astrobiological perspective as well. New research published today in Nature Astronomy is the first to explain why these stripes are only located at the south pole and why the fissures run in parallel lines at roughly 35-kilometer 22-mile intervals. Importantly, the new paper also explains why similar features have not been observed on other icy objects in the solar system, such as Jupiters moon Europa. The tiger stripes on Enceladus. Now you can watch as well as listen as world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking expounds upon his latest ideas about the knotty black hole information paradox, playfully illustrated by chalkboard artist Andrew Park. Hawking recently joined a long l hoka schuhe ine of illustrious figures who have given the annual BBC Reith Lectures, founded in 1948, with the very first lectures in the series delivered by Bertrand Russell. And naturally he chose to talk about adidas campus 80s black holes, specifically the paradox created by his assertion in the 1970s that black holes give off radiation that causes them to gradually evaporate. The smaller the black hole, the faster this happens. This has implications for whether or not its possible to retrieve information that falls into a black hole. Hawking assumed it would be lost. Not only does God play dice, but he sometimes confuses us by throwing them where they cant be seen, he famously declared. This is okay in general relativity, but quantum mechanics holds that information must always be preserved. Hence the paradox. For awhile, physicists thought they had found an acceptable makeshift solution; Hawking even conceded a bet hed made with Caltechs John Preskill and Kip Thorne in 2004. That uneasy truce was shattered in 2012, when physicists at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics published a controversial paper, pointing out serious flaws in the accepted solution. The debate has continued to rage ever reebok classic since. Last August, Hawking made waves yet again whe

You can fake longer lashes with mascara, a curler, or extensions, but a new study suggests that the actual length of your lashes has already been set by a biological ratio. Plus, there also a pretty good mathematical reason to lay off those extra long extensions. So what is the formula The length of eyelashes on all 22 species of mammals studied was 1/3 of the width of the eye. To get to that formula, researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology used two methods: First, they hit the American Museum of Natural History to start measuring all the eyes and lashes that they could. But once the lashes exceeded one 1/3, something strange happened. Not only was there no additional protection, the effects actually became worse, with the extra length acting almost like a funnel to direct dust into the eye.
