The promise of personalized medicine is a pretty big one: Tailoring treatments to a patients genes, their environment or their lifestyle, the thinking goes, will result in treatments that are much more likely to work. The same disease can manifest differently in different people, so why treat patients with a one-size-fits-a adidas samba donna ll-approach But a new paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research suggests that, if personalized medicine really takes off, it could actually wind up hurting the pace of biomedical innovation. Heres why: Say theres a personalized lung cancer drug targeted at the specific genetic mutation i adidas samba nvolved in causing the cancer. Not every lung cancer patient will have that same mutation. Instead, there are likely to be many different biomarkers associated with the same cancer. That means that if a drug works, instead of having a blockbuster drug for a common disease on its hand, the company that developed the drug will have a drug tailored to a much smaller market of patients. And that, the paper suggests, could reduce some of the incentives for innovation. Thats not the only market impact the NBER expects tailored therapies will have. The more effective the therapy, the paper suggests, the bigger the price tag might be. At the sa dunk homme me time, it could also reduce the cost of drugs by allowing more sophisticated pricing systems and potentially decreasing the costs of drug development through shorter and more focused trials. A bipartisan group of senators is pushing forward a privacy bill meant to offer some much-needed transparency on the data being hoovered by our digital devices. And for once, a bill like this yeezy actually has a chance of passing. This week, Senator Amy Klobuchar reintroduced聽the 2019 Social Media Privacy Protection and Consumer Rights Act to the Senate, alongside fellow Democratic senator Joe Manchin and Republican reps John Kennedy and Richard Burr. In a nutshell, the legislation would mandate that all social platforms鈥攆rom Facebook, to Youtube, to TikTok鈥攔eplace their barely legible privacy policies with something that regular humans can read and understand. The bill also mandates that these platforms give users the option to opt-out of the collection of all personal data of the user tracked by the operator. Over the past few months, the U.S. has been buffeted by a pandemic, protests over racist police violence, and two tropical storms. Add wildfires to the list as well, as the West prepares to start the week with tinderbox conditions. An area from California to the Texas Panhandle is under a red flag warning on Monday. Relative humidity could plummet into the single digits, and you d adidas samba ont need to be a fire scientist to know thats not a good sign. With dry air and fuels, all it will take is an errant spark to start a fire. High temperatures and gusty winds are in turn expected to fan flames of already-burning fires adidas campus 80s and could spread new ones. Arizona is home to the largest fire in the U.S. right now, according to data from the National Interagency Fire Center NIFC . The main ingredient fueling the fire danger for the Southwest is a front moving across the West that has turned the weather warning map into a rainbow of weirdness, including everything from critical fire conditions to winter storm advisories. Okay, so technically theyre not GIFs, but cinemagraphs, short, seamlessly repeating videos. Either way, these incredible loops of dramatic waves from Ray Collins and Armand Dijcks are endlessly soothing. Just watch and watch and watch and forget that the Earth will soon be one giant ocean. Collins captured the photographs these loops are based on while swimming in massive waves with a Nikon D5 in a waterproof casing. The loops actually start out as still images that become short videos thanks to some studio magic. Dijcks is in charge of that. Surprisingly, Dijcks uses a couple of software programs鈥攁nd not actual video鈥攖o create the illusion of motion. Its probably best if I just let you read the explanation of the process from Dijcks himself, as told to Gizmodo via email: Together we selected a number of stills for me to work with. Each still is taken into After Effects and animated. I basically start with the original still and have After Effects slowly distort that image over the duration of a few second air force 1 s. If I left it at that, I would end up with a very weird looking adidas original campus , distorted wave. So the next step is to take this short video clip into an application called Flixel Cinemagraph Pro. This is where the final magic happens. It lets you mask out certain areas where you want to have the motio af1 n visible, and will show the original image everywhere else. This way you can hide parts of the distortion, and make it look like the wave is moving in a natural way. The final step is

More and more research is starting to confirm a troubling suspicion scientists have had about covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus: People without symptoms can not only spread the infection but are actually fueling its pandemic spread across the globe. As recently as February, the consensus among public health experts was that the greatest danger of catching covid-19 came from being around people whose symptoms had already begun. The period when a person is infected but not yet feeling sick, called the incubation period, seems to typically be five days to two weeks, and it wasnt clear whether people could spread the infection during that time. There had been reports of asymptomatic transmission in China, where the outbreak began, but also some confusion. In early February, a report looking into the first few cases locally spread in Germany that attributed them to an asymptomatic index case was criticized after it turned out that the patient who sparked that outbreak wasnt asymptomatic after all. Since then, evidence has continued to stack up that people are regularly spreading covid-19 without having symptoms, either as ca yeezy foam rriers who experience no or very mild symptoms chanclas yeezy or before they actually become s adidas yeezy ick, otherwise known as being presymptomatic. https://gizmodo/assholes-who-ridiculed- ... 1842357421 Some researchers have found that people are most contagious before and during the first week that symptoms start, meaning they shed i Tiof Twitter May Be Holding On to DMs Long After You Think They re Deleted

Now, though, you ;re breathing in not just the aromatic compounds you likely know well鈥攂ut a selection of antibiotics and antibiotic-resistant DNA, too. Each of the yards was home to between 20,000 and 50,000 cattle. In particular, the researchers found the antibiotics tetracycline, chlortetracycline, and oxytetracycline in 60 percent the down-wind samples. Oxytetracycline was found in all of them. Today at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Games offered a closer look at what fans can expect from Square-Enix and Crystal Dynamics Marvels Avengers. Having given us a glimpse at E3 last month, we got to see a little more of just how this take on Earths Mightiest will deal with the seeming loss of one of their own. After about an hour talking about Iron Man VR, Ultimate Alliance 3 and Conquest of Champions, Hall H was shown about 20 minutes of gameplay, described as the prologue of the game. Things begin a massive celebration for the Avengers in San Francisco, when, out of nowhere, there are explosions on the Golden Gate Bridge. Captain America sends Thor, Iron Man, and the rest of Earths Mightiest to check it out and, very naturally in gameplay, you first play as Thor, then as Iron Man. Then Hulk, then Black Widow. The Avengers are all trying to stop this massive terrorist attack that, we find out, is being orchestrated by Taskmaster, a rogue mercenary villain in the comics who has Photographic Reflexes that let him rapidly master many forms of martial arts, and even emulate some of our heroes combat skills. Three years later, theyre currently trying to figure out how to land a probe two times that size on the surface. Tests are being designed, an air max 1 d held, figuring out a way to get a probe that size to slow down enough so it wouldnt crash on the planet surface. Over 50 years of space exploration, NASA has landed seven crafts on the surfaces of Mars.
